Ramzan Kadyrov is used to outrageous statements. This Saturday, the Chechen leader had called for the use of “low-power nuclear weapons” in Ukraine, while the Russian army is experiencing difficulties and had to withdraw from the strategic town of Lyman.
“In my opinion, more drastic measures should be taken, up to the declaration of martial law in the border areas and the use of low-power nuclear weapons,” he said on Telegram.
“Heroic Contribution”
On Monday, the Kremlin ruled that Ramzan Kadyrov’s departure had been made under the influence of emotion.
“In difficult times, emotions must be excluded from any assessment (of the situation). We prefer to make measured and objective assessments,” Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
However, he praised the “heroic contribution” of the Chechen leader in the armed offensive in Ukraine, where hundreds or even thousands of his soldiers were sent to fight.
This same Kadyrov had criticized the Russian colonel general in charge of the operations around Lyman, Alexandre Lapin, judging that the latter had not provided “the communications” and the “necessary ammunition” to the soldiers dedicated to the defense of this city in eastern Ukraine.
