Association of Free Russians demonstrates against the war in Lisbon

Against the war in Ukraine, for an immediate ceasefire and for Vladimir Putin to be tried by the International Criminal Court in The Hague. These reasons led the Association of Free Russians to demonstrate for the 16th time this Saturday in front of the Russian embassy in Lisbon.

With a blue and white flag – reportedly symbolizing the Russians’ anti-war actions in Lisbon – the (few) demonstrators handed out leaflets demanding that “kidnapped children” be returned to Ukraine by the Kremlin. They also call for justice for Alexei Navalny, a critic of Putin’s regime, who is currently in prison.

The proximity between the Kremlin and Belarus is also criticized. “With his accomplice, the dictator and murderer Lukashenko, Putin is scaring the world with nuclear weapons transferred from Russia to Belarus in violation of the agreements on the prohibition of the proliferation of nuclear weapons,” they say.

For August 20, they are preparing “a major rally against Putin, against dictatorships and for the development of civil society”, scheduled at 5 p.m., in Largo dos Restauradores.

Similar actions have been carried out by the same organization since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, as can be seen in the place of the association. The most common place is in front of the Russian embassy, but there have been similar protests in other parts of Lisbon. There have also been similar protests, by the same association, in Porto.
