Russian President Vladimir Putin told his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko on Sunday that the Ukrainian counter-offensive to lure Russian troops out of Ukraine had “failed,” according to Russian news agencies.
“There is no counter-offensive,” Lukashenko told TASS news agency, before being interrupted by Vladimir Putin, who launched: “There is one, but it failed.”
Russian President Alexander Lukashenko met on Sunday for the first time since the close Moscow ally helped end the Wagner group’s uprising last month, images released by Minsk showed.
A video released by the Belarusian president’s press service shows the two leaders arriving together at a palace in St. Petersburg, Russia, where bilateral talks are to take place.
