Pope Francis renewed this Sunday the call to political leaders to adopt concrete actions to limit polluting emissions, after the extreme weather events that recently hit several countries.
“I renew my call to the leaders of nations to do something more concrete to limit polluting emissions. It is an urgent and urgent challenge that concerns us all”, said the head of the Catholic Church, at the end of the Angelus prayer, before thousands of faithful gathered in Saint Peter’s Square, in Vatican City.
Francis urged not to ignore the signs of the climate crisis, citing recent “extreme weather events” in various parts of the world, including heat waves in the United States, China, Italy, Spain and Greece and floods in South Korea.
“On the one hand, several regions are affected by abnormal heat waves and are hit by devastating fires [como a Grécia]. On the other hand, in many places there are storms and floods, like those that hit South Korea”, said the Pope, who urged the protection of the planet, which he called “common home”.
