A bridge under construction partially collapsed on Sunday in Patras, western Greece, leaving several people trapped and injured under the rubble, authorities told AFP. According to a police source, quoted by AFP, there are records of at least two dead and a dozen injured.
“There are people arrested, but we don’t know how many,” said a firefighter spokesman, while a police spokesman specified minutes later that there were “injuries.”
Rescue teams began searching the rubble for possible victims or survivors, according to emergency services, in statements to the Greek television channel MEGA.
The bridge was about to be demolished due to its instability and at the time of the collapse there were two heavy machinery on it, including a crane.
Investigations have already begun to clarify the causes of the collapse.
