Russia de-dramatizes Ukrainian drones and will continue military operation “until it achieves objectives”

The Kremlin said on Monday it will continue the so-called “special military operation” in Ukraine until targets are met, in comment on last night’s “drone” attack on Moscow.

“The special military operation continues and will continue until the objectives are achieved”said Russian presidency spokesman Dmitry Peskov at the usual daily press conference.

Commenting on the work of the capital’s air defense, Peskov said he could only confirm that “all ‘drones’ had been neutralized” and forwarded more details to the defense ministry.

“She [Ministério da Defesa russo] know that today’s “drones” have been neutralized. Measures are being taken in that sense,” Peskov said, without giving details.

Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed to have thwarted hours earlier “an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack on facilities on Moscow territory with two unmanned aerial vehicles”.

However, the mayor of the capital, Sergey Sobyanin, reported that the “drones” hit two non-residential buildings in Moscow, one of which was near the Defense Ministry.

The latest attempt to attack Moscow was on the 4th of this month, when the defense claimed to have foiled a terrorist attack launched by Ukraine against New Moscow, the administrative district of the Russian capital, with five ‘drones’.

In Kiev, a Ukrainian Defense Ministry source, who asked for anonymity, confirmed the attack on Moscow with two ‘drones’, ironically deeming it a ‘special operation’ by the GUR, Ukraine’s military security agency.

Earlier, international news agencies indicated that one of two “drones” that fell in Moscow on Monday hit an area near a military university, in an area of the capital that is home to several buildings belonging to Russia’s Ministry of Defense.

A ‘drone’ crashed on Komsomolski Avenue and broke the windows of at least two shops, one of which specializes in selling Crimean wines, EFE news agency said.

Traffic on Komsolmolski Avenue, which was not allowed after the drone crash, has now resumed and is running normally.

According to Christo Grozev, a researcher at the journalistic portal Bellingcat, several buildings of the information services of the Russian Ministry of Defense are located in the attacked area.

The second “drone” crashed on Liyachov Avenue, in a business center under construction, breaking glass on the 17th and 18th floors in an area of 50 square meters.

“Today, around 04:00 local time (02:00 in Lisbon), there were drone attacks on two non-residential buildings. There were no serious damages or casualties,” Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin told the Telegram social network.

Earlier, Russia’s defense ministry said it had thwarted “an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack with two unmanned aerial vehicles against facilities in the Moscow region”.

The Russian ministry indicated that “the two Ukrainian ‘drones’ were neutralized and crashed”, adding that there were no casualties.
