An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 on the Richter scale was registered this Tuesday off southern Indonesia and eastern Timor-Leste, without the authorities having evidence of victims or material damage.

The quake occurred at a depth of 88.6 km below the seabed, said the US Geological Survey, which measures seismic activity around the world.
The Indonesian Geological Survey assessed the quake’s magnitude at 6 and said there was no risk of a tsunami.
The island of Timor-Leste is located in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, an area of great seismic and volcanic activity, where thousands of earthquakes are recorded each year, most of low to moderate magnitude.
