Ukraine says Crimea is a target

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said on Tuesday that the Kerch Bridge in Crimea, as well as military installations on this Russian-annexed peninsula, are “official targets” of the Ukrainian armed forces.

“All of these targets are official targets because they reduce the ability to fight [dos militares russos] against us, saving the lives of Ukrainians,” Ukraine’s defense minister told US television CNN.

“It is a normal tactic to destroy the enemy’s logistical lines to hinder their ability to get more ammunition, more fuel or more food. That is why we will use these tactics” against the Russians, Reznikov said, referring to the Kerch bridge.

On the other hand, Reznikov also accused Russia of acting as a “terrorist state” after the latest attacks on several Ukrainian grain warehouses, which took place days after Moscow decided not to renew the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grains from Black Sea ports.

The Russian government justified these attacks in retaliation for attacks on some of its strategic installations, such as the Kerch Bridge.

Reznikov assured that the Russians are “fighting the Ukrainian civilian population”.

According to the Defense Minister of Ukraine, Ukrainians therefore classify Russians as “looters, rapists and murderers”.

A week ago, one of the sections of the Kerch Bridge, which connects the Crimean peninsula to Russia’s Krasnodar region, was hit by several ‘drones’ in an attack that left two dead.

Ukraine avoided responsibility for the attack and even accused Russia of having committed it. Meanwhile, Moscow has denounced Kiev as responsible for the bridge incident in Crimea.

The Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea was annexed by Russia in 2014.

The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on February 24, 2022 has so far led to the flight of more than 14.7 million people, of which 6.5 million are internally displaced and more than 8.2 million to European countries, according to the latest UN data, which classify this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945).

The Russian invasion – justified by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russian security – was condemned by the general international community, which responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and imposing political and economic sanctions on Russia.
