Ukraine on Wednesday accused Russian forces of attacking rescue teams during the rocket attack on Pokrovsk, in Donetsk, that killed at least nine people and injured more than 80, including 39 civilians.
Kiev accused Moscow of deliberately and sequentially attacking several residential buildings, insisting that some of these missiles were aimed at rescue and emergency teams with the intention of “injuring or killing them,” according to information from the Ukrinform news agency.
The Russian missile strike took place between Monday evening and Tuesday morning in Pokrovsk, in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine.
The explosions hit a residential area, a hotel and nearby restaurants, shops and administrative buildings, which were damaged.
The president, Volodymyr Zelensky, who described the attack as an “atrocity”, confirmed that most of the injured are police, rescuers and soldiers who approached the area to help injured residents.
The governor of the region, Pavlo Kirilenko, indicated that the Russian ‘Iskander’ missiles hit the ground at intervals of about 40 minutes.
Rescue services continue to remove debris from the attack-affected sites, searching for survivors or bodies.
