Russia’s Defense Ministry said this morning it shot down 13 drones, including 11 near Crimea and two flying towards the Russian capital, Moscow, after several similar attacks in recent days.
“Two drones flying towards the city of Moscow were destroyed,” the Russian Defense Ministry said on the Telegram messaging platform.
One of the drones targeting the Russian capital was shot down by Russian air defense in the Kaluga region and the second in the Odintsovsky district, the ministry said, accusing Kiev of having launched the devices.
“Near the city of Sevastopol [na Crimeia]two drones were hit by air defense systems in use, another nine were neutralized by electronic warfare systems and fell into the Black Sea before reaching the target,” according to the same source.
No casualties or damage were reported, the ministry said. Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian soil have increased in recent weeks, often targeting Moscow and the Crimean peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014.
On Wednesday, Russia announced that it had shot down two Ukrainian drones headed for the Russian capital. On Monday, Moscow said it had destroyed another Ukrainian plane in the Kaluga region, after destroying seven others in the same area on Thursday last week.
Naval drones have also attacked Russian ships on several occasions in recent weeks, including an oil tanker on Saturday.
