The proportion of recent graduates from the EU reaches its highest level since 2014

The number of recently graduated workers in the European Union (EU) increased in 2022 to 82%, the highest percentage since 2014, Eurostat published on Thursday.

According to the European Statistical Office, last year 82% of workers between the ages of 20 and 34 were employed.

The percentage is the highest since 2014 (there was an increase of seven percentage points) and surpassed the maximum of 81% registered in 2018 and 2019. There was a drop in 2020 and 2021 explained by the pandemic.

Eurostat noted that there is “a steady growth trend that has only been interrupted” due to Covid-19.

The percentage of recently graduated men was in 2022 higher than that of women. However, the gap today is only two percentage points.

“The disparities in the employability percentages are explained by the nature of the areas, since the market demand varies depending on that choice,” advocated the statistics service.

In Portugal, employment of recent graduates stands at 81.7%.
