“Upon arrival at the place, the Maritime Police intercepted two boats with 23 men, two women and three children, who showed signs of dehydration and fatigue and without life jackets”, having been rescued to the port of Pantelleria, where the Italian authorities were waiting for them. “, AMN explained.

During the afternoon, elements of the Maritime Police received information about another boat with migrants off the coast of Pantelleria, initiating an operation that resulted in the rescue of another 22 people, including three women and nine children, also transported to Pantelleria, he stressed. also.

Since June 2023, the Maritime Police have already rescued 233 migrants, the same source added.

The Maritime Police has been part, since June 14, of Operation “THEMIS”, in which it is its sixth participation in the mission that aims to “control and monitor the Italian and external maritime borders of the European Union, in the fight against border crossing crime”.
