Floods, mudslides kill 65 in India

The floods and landslides that occurred in India, after torrential rains that are felt mainly in the northern region, caused at least 65 deaths, according to a report released Tuesday by the authorities.

The storm, which has raged for several days, destroyed bridges and buildings and swept vehicles across northern Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

In Himachal Pradesh, since Sunday, at least 52 people have died, announced the Prime Minister of this state, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, asking residents to remain safe.

The collapse of a temple dedicated to Shiva killed 11 people in Shimla.

According to local authorities, rescue operations are still ongoing and around 10 people may still be under the rubble.

Indian President Draupadi Murmu, quoted by Agence France Presse (AFP), said she was “saddened by the loss of life in accidents related to heavy rains.”
