Since the beginning of the year, the US has transferred large quantities of strategic nuclear weapons to South Korea, including a nuclear submarine, a strategic bomber and an aircraft carrier belonging to the nuclear strike group, Kang told the 11th International Security Conference in Moscow.
According to the minister, the question now is “not when a nuclear war will start on the Korean peninsula, but who will start it, how and when”.
Still, according to Kang, it is currently “impossible” to resolve the conflict through dialogue or negotiations.
“Until the US recognizes the complete failure of its hostile policy towards the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and forever renounces […] its policy of military antagonism with our Republic, the solution of any problem through dialogue or negotiation will not be possible,” he stressed.
The head of the North Korean defense portfolio noted that under the current circumstances “only force is the way to maintain peace and stability on the Korean peninsula”.
Tension between the two Koreas is at its most critical point, following numerous weapons tests conducted by the Pyongyang government since last year, including its most advanced intercontinental ballistic missiles.
