Eurozone GDP grows 0.6% in the 2nd quarter and is below the Portuguese increase

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the euro zone increased by 0.6% in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2022, while the Portuguese economy grew by 2.3%, Eurostat announced on Wednesday.

Quick estimates of seasonally adjusted GDP for the second quarter of 2023 show that, in this period compared to the same period in 2022, the GDP of the euro area increased by 0.6% and that of the EU by 0.5% in the EU, after a 1.1% increase in both areas compared to the previous quarter.

These percentages compare to a 2.3% increase in Portuguese GDP in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.

In the chain variation, the Portuguese economy stabilized in the second quarter compared to the first quarter of 2023, following the trend registered in the euro zone (0.3%) and in the EU (unchanged).

These are preliminary estimates from the Commonwealth Office of Statistics that can be reviewed with the regulars on GDP and key aggregates to be released in September and October.
