Russian security services say they have eliminated four Ukrainian saboteurs

The Russian security services (FSB) announced on Wednesday that four Ukrainian saboteurs who tried to enter the Bryansk border area from northern Ukraine have been “eliminated”.

FSB forces and Russia’s Defense Ministry “prevented an attempt by a Ukrainian intelligence and sabotage group to enter Russian territory,” the FSB said in a statement quoted by the country’s news agencies. “Four saboteurs have been eliminated,” they added, without specifying the date of the operation.

According to the security services, “foreign weapons, explosives, communication and navigation instruments” were discovered, as well as drones with symbols of the Russian state and labels marked “Property of the Russian FSB”.

Something that, they say, “indicates preparations for provocations and acts of sabotage on Russian territory,” according to the FSB.

Bryansk governor Alexander Bogomaz said on Tuesday that Russian troops had thwarted a “group of saboteurs” invading the region bordering Ukraine. AFP could not indicate whether it was the same incident.

According to the same source, “no one was injured” as a result of this incident, but Ukrainian attacks in the region damaged industrial facilities.

Russian regions bordering Ukraine have experienced an increase in Ukrainian drone strikes in recent months, according to Moscow.

Fighting and bombing also hit several villages near the Ukrainian border. In early June, attacks claimed by armed groups claiming to be Russian and fighting alongside the Ukrainian army led to violent clashes in the Belgorod region.
