A forest fire on the Spanish island of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, forced the evacuation of five towns, in addition to the closure of roads, and the regional government admitted on Wednesday that the situation is “out of control”.
“The fire is out of control. The outlook is not very positive”, acknowledged the President of the Government of the autonomous community of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, at a press conference.
The official added that the towns of Arrate, Chivisaya, Media Montaña, Ajafona and Las Lagunetas were evacuated this Wednesday morning, as a precautionary measure, while around 250 firefighters and 13 planes and helicopters fought a fire that broke out on Tuesday and reached a wooded area. and ravines in the northeastern part of the island.
Fernando Clavijo also estimated that there are around 1,800 hectares burned. “Our goal is for him to stop gaining ground. It was a very difficult day,” he said.
