The Sudanese army said on Monday that it had killed or wounded “hundreds” of fighters from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group in new clashes that have been taking place since Sunday in the south of the capital, Khartoum.

“Our forces failed in a series of attacks by the rebel militias, which suffered enormous losses, including hundreds of deaths and injuries,” the army said in a statement issued this morning and quoted by the EFE news agency.

Clashes have intensified since Sunday near the munitions complex in the Al Shagara district, in the southern area of ​​the capital, which is home to the army’s armored corps, where the military announced the death of at least six civilians in attacks with mortars perpetrated by the RSF. .

In the statement, the Army also assures that RSF “uses a large number of minors in its attacks” and accuses the rebels of having bombarded the Karrari area, in the northwest of Khartoum, and causing the death of two women and wounding others. eight. other people

Since April 15, the two parties have been involved in one of the worst conflicts in Sudan’s recent history, which has caused between 1,000 and 3,000 deaths, according to different estimates, and has forced more than 4.5 million people to travel to and from abroad. country.
