The president of the republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, announced in Kiev this Wednesday that he is considering inviting his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, to visit Lisbon and that he will use Thursday’s meeting to talk about it.
“We would very much like an opportunity to do this. It is an issue that may be dealt with tomorrow and is not worth anticipating the meeting of the delegations. […]his schedule is busy”, said the president of the republic after participating in the summit organized by the “Plataforma da Crimea”, about Ukraine’s recovery of that peninsula.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa added that Volodymyr Zelensky “privileges these international contacts, but there is war” in the country.
Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky defended this Wednesday that “the voice of Portugal is politically important” and thanked the visit of his Portuguese counterpart, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, to Kiev.
“Portugal’s voice is politically important,” Zelensky said at a press conference at the top of the Crimean Platform in Kiev.

Zelensky added that Portugal has supported Ukraine since the invasion of Russia began and that the country is on the side of Ukrainian authorities “by holding Russia accountable” for the crime of aggression.
The Ukrainian head of state thanked countries such as Portugal for their support in various areas, for example in the field of ammunition.
“Victory on the battlefield is very important, people are dying and countries are helping,” Zelensky said on the eve of the completion of a year and a half of war in Ukraine, which was invaded by Russia on February 24, 2022.
