Russia said on Friday it had shot down a Ukrainian missile aimed at “civilian targets” in the Kaluga region, as well as “several drones” off Crimea.
An attempted attack by kyiv against “civilian targets on the territory of the Russian Federation has been thwarted,” the Defense Ministry said on the Telegram messaging platform.
“The missile was detected and destroyed by air defense systems over the territory of the Kaluga region,” southwest of the Russian capital, the same source added.
Russian state news agency TASS also reported, citing air service sources, that the international airports of Moscow, Vnukovo and Domodedovo were closed to air traffic at dawn.
The Kaluga region borders Moscow, which has been targeted by Ukrainian drones several times in recent days, Russian officials said.
The Russian administration in annexed Crimea said this morning it had shot down drones off the peninsula.
“According to preliminary data, several drones were destroyed over the sea in the area of Cape Chersonese,” Governor Mikhail Razvojaev said.
On Thursday, Kiev announced that it had carried out a rare operation in Crimea, annexed by Russia, and had raised the Ukrainian flag, a symbolic success on Ukraine’s Independence Day in this stronghold considered impregnable by Moscow.
