The Latvian Security Service (VDD) carried out an operation that resulted in a dozen house searches and the arrest of four Latvian citizens suspected of working as spies for Russian intelligence services, the local press reported on Friday.
During the operation, which took place in the capital Riga and other cities in the country, VDD agents seized several devices of “strategic importance” that could have been used for illegal operations, according to the Delfi news portal, quoted by international organizations.
According to the investigation, the four suspects, one of whom was released under supervision, are charged with carrying out actions to destabilize the Latvian state and the security of the country’s citizens.
In recent days, the Polish secret services have arrested about fifteen people suspected of collaborating with the Russian authorities.
