An earlier warning from the Boston Police Department warned that traffic would be affected by two parades associated with an annual Caribbean Carnival this Saturday, one beginning at 6:30 a.m. (Boston time) and another an hour later.
Police said they received an initial call about gunfire at 7:44 am.
Unverified social media posts appear to show people running from a chaotic street scene, with some falling to the ground.
