Prigozhin’s death confirmed by Russian investigators

The death of the head of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, after a plane crash that occurred on Wednesday, was confirmed this Sunday through genetic analysis, the Russian Investigative Committee advanced.

At the end of the “molecular genetic examination” it was verified that the identities of the 10 victims, whose bodies were found after the accident, “correspond to the list” of passengers and crew members of the plane, the Committee, an organization responsible for the main investigations in Russia.

Without adding further details, the Committee indicated that Prigozhin was among the victims.

Investigators have not commented on the possible causes of the plane crash.

The private plane carrying Prigozhin and his guard crashed Wednesday afternoon in the Tver region northwest of Moscow, immediately raising suspicions of a Russian-orchestrated assassination.

In Washington, Paris, Berlin or kyiv, senior officials hinted that their suspicions lay squarely with the Kremlin.

The Kremlin has denied ordering Prigozhin’s assassination, calling the allegations “speculation.”
