UK air traffic control affected by network outage

Hundreds of flights to and from the United Kingdom suffer delays this Monday due to a computer failure in “the entire network” of national air traffic control systems. Some passengers were told their flights could be delayed by up to 12 hours while engineers tried to fix the problem.

According to flight location portals, few planes have been able to take off from Heathrow, the UK’s busiest airport, since 11:30 a.m.

“We are currently experiencing a technical issue and have applied air traffic flow restrictions to maintain safety. Engineers are working to find and correct the malfunction. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” a Nationals spokesman said. . British airspace controllers told The Guardian.

A Heathrow airport spokesman said there were disruptions to flights across the UK.

“We advise passengers to check with their airline for the latest updates. We are working closely with domestic and other airport passengers to minimize the impact this has on passengers,” he advised.

British Airways informed passengers that their flights were subject to delays.

“We are working closely with Nats to understand the impact of a technical issue affecting UK airspace and will keep our customers up to date with the latest information.”

For its part, the regional airline Loganair, based in Glasgow, also warned its customers, through X (ex-Twitter), that “this morning there was a failure in the air traffic control computer systems in the United Kingdom”.
