Several British airports warned early this Tuesday of the existence of “significant delays” in flights, despite the fact that the technical failure that affected the United Kingdom’s air traffic system on Monday has been solved.
Thousands of passengers were unable to travel to and from the UK on Monday due to a technical problem that disrupted UK flight planning systems.
London Heathrow Airport advised passengers with flights today to contact their airlines to find out the status of their trips before heading to the terminal.
London Gatwick Airport has also asked passengers to contact their airlines.
Luton Airport, also in London, warned today that UK flights remain subject to delays or cancellations.
UK Transport Minister Mark Harper today apologized to travelers for disrupting their journeys.
“The system issue was resolved yesterday. [segunda-feira] this afternoon, but obviously there are some outages that will continue today and I know thousands of people have been affected. I hope that the airlines will assume their responsibilities to ensure that people return home, offer them an alternative flight and take care of food, drink and accommodation,” the minister said in a statement.
In the note, Mark Harper ruled out that the technical failure is related to a cybersecurity incident, but added that a report on the incident will be made.
The air traffic company NATS explained on Monday that the problem “affected the system’s ability to automatically process flight plans, so they had to be processed manually.”
