Nigerian police have arrested 67 people attending a same-sex wedding in the south of the country, a police spokesman said.
The Nigerian penal code classifies homosexuality as a crime, with prison terms ranging from 14 years to life.
Police spokesman Bright Edafe explained that the people will be prosecuted under laws related to the LGBT community, after approximately 100 people were initially arrested at a hotel in the city of Uvwie, in Delta state.
“We have arrested a hundred, but after the investigation, the number of suspects was reduced to 67. They will be prosecuted before the courts in accordance with the laws of the country,” Edafe was quoted as saying by the Nigerian newspaper Vanguard.
