The Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs defended this Thursday that it is possible to establish an agreement for the export of cereals through the Black Sea that excludes Russia and asked for the support of the European Union (EU) to implement it.
“Ukraine believes, and I conveyed this to the Member States, that it is possible to build a maritime alternative that does not involve Russia. We have to make it work sustainably. We can do it together, and when we do it, food security will not depend on the hunger games of Russia”, considered Dmytro Kuleba, speaking before journalists together with his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares, in Toledo, after an informal meeting between representatives of the diplomacy of the 27, with the participation of Ukraine.
Dmytro Kuleba announced that kyiv and EU member states agreed today to expand land corridors that Brussels had already established to export grain.
Ukraine is one of the world’s largest cereal producers and exporters and several countries, particularly in Africa and the Middle East, depend on its exports.
Russia in July broke an agreement in place since July 2022 that allowed ships to safely pass through the Black Sea.
