Ukraine: Russia seeks journalist who criticized invasion on state television

Russia announced on Monday that it is looking for journalist Marina Ovsyannikova, known for her televised appearance with a poster against Russia’s offensive in Ukraine, alleging she has violated the conditions of house arrest and will be detained.

According to the website of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ovsyannikova’s name has been entered into the wanted persons database.

Marina Ovsyannikova became a symbol of the anti-war movement in Russia when she appeared on a pro-Kremlin TV news channel last March in which she worked with a poster denouncing the offensive in Ukraine, which began in February, and the “propaganda” suggested. from the government-controlled press.

The journalist emigrated to Germany after protesting the decision of the Russian presidency (Kremlin) to launch the so-called “special military operation” in Ukraine, but later returned to Russia, where she continued to demonstrate against the conflict.

After participating in a protest against the invasion of Ukraine in mid-July, Marina Ovsyannikova was accused of spreading false information about the Russian army, for which she could face a prison sentence of up to 10 years.

Last August, a Moscow court ordered the journalist’s house arrest until October 9, but on Saturday her ex-husband, Igor Ovsianikov, reported that Marina had fled, taking her daughter with her.
