Britain warns of Russian cyber attack on Ukrainian army

British intelligence on Monday warned of break-ins into mobile phones used by the Ukrainian army involved in a counter-offensive against Russia’s invasion.

According to the United Kingdom’s intelligence services, Russia is seeking to obtain “sensitive military information” from Ukraine’s armed forces through computer attacks on mobile phones used by the Ukrainian military, according to a Defense Ministry statement.

The British report cites the conclusions of the UK’s National Cyber ​​Security Center (NCSC), alongside “other international partners”, who on Thursday reported a “campaign of ‘malware’ (computer attack) against mobile devices used by the UK. Ukrainian Army”.

According to the same sources, the program used in the alleged Russian cyber-attack has been identified as “Infamous Chisel”, which has already been used by the group of “hackers” Sandworm.

Previously, the NCSC, the British computer security agency, has already assigned links to the Sandworm group to the Special Technology Center of the Central Information Bureau of the General Staff of the Russian Army.

“Infamous Chisel” is a program that provides permanent access to filter and retrieve data from Android devices.

The same program would also be used “against computer applications of the Ukrainian army”, according to the same statement released by the British Ministry of Defense on Monday via the social network X.
