At least one person died after storm Dana in Spain, Toledo authorities announced. The Spanish newspaper El País adds that there are also two missing people in Aldea del Fresno, in Madrid. According to the emergency services, it is a father and a son who were in a car that fell into the river due to the force of the wind.
The rain fell heavily during the early hours of the morning and, therefore, five Spanish communities (Madrid, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, the Basque Country and La Rioja) remain on yellow alert this morning.
The state meteorology agency specified that, in Madrid, between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Monday, 15 liters of water per square meter accumulated, causing flooding on several roads and causing traffic chaos in the Spanish capital. Several metro stations also had to be closed.
In Buenache de Alarcón, in the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha, the local authorities will request that the municipality be declared a “disaster zone”. Mayor Raquel Hortelano speaks of “innumerable damages.”
The yellow alert in Spain must remain until 10:00 a.m. this Monday.
