US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is in kyiv on Wednesday, where he is expected to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and announce a new financial aid package for Ukraine.
“We hope that the Secretary of State can announce more than a million dollars in new aid to Ukraine during the visit,” said an official source from the US State Department quoted by the AFP agency.
The visit of the head of US diplomacy, announced Tuesday afternoon, comes at a time when the Ukrainian capital is the daily target of Russian attacks.
Upon arriving in kyiv, Blinken laid a wreath at the Berkovetske Cemetery, in honor of Ukrainian servicemen who died in the war. Throughout the day, he is scheduled to meet with Volodymyr Zelensky, the Prime Minister, Denys Shmyhal, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba.
This is the third time Blinken has traveled to kyiv since the start of the war, after April 2022 and September 2022.
