They filed a lawsuit to cancel concerts by Roger Waters in Brazil for apology for Nazism

The Brazilian Prosecutor’s Office filed a complaint on Wednesday asking for the cancellation of concerts by British musician Roger Waters in the country for allegedly encouraging Nazism.

The decision was announced by the Rio de Janeiro Regional Citizen Rights Prosecutor’s Office, after two Israeli organizations in Brazil requested, in June, that the co-founder of the Pink Floyd band be banned from entering the country.

The plaintiffs were referring to an alleged Nazi-style outfit that Rogers wore to a concert he gave in the German city of Frankfurt in May, drawing criticism from the Israeli Foreign Ministry for allegedly inciting hatred against Jews.

The musician wore a black coat and a red bracelet during the performance of a song in which he assumed the character of a dictator, for which he was accused of having advocated Nazi violence.

The vocalist, known for his political positions against dictatorships but also in defense of the Palestinian cause, explained at the time that his performance, in which he imitated a classic image from the film The Wall, was precisely a criticism of fascism and not a apology. . .

The Minister of Justice of Brazil, Flávio Dino, after receiving the complaint presented by the Holocaust Memorial Institute and the Israeli Confederation of Brazil (Conib), even said that Waters would be arrested if he wore the aforementioned Nazi uniform in the country.

Members of the Brazilian Public Ministry agreed that the allusion to the Nazi uniform is intended to provoke rejection and not apologize.

The decision adds that Waters can be criticized for the method used to voice his criticism, but he cannot be blamed for his way of thinking.

Waters will perform seven shows in Brazil between October 24 and November 12, as part of the “This is Not a Drill” farewell tour.
