Activists throw two cream cakes in the face of the CEO of Ryanair in Brussels

Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary was received in Brussels on Thursday with two cream cakes thrown in his face by activists present. The incident took place as O’Leary prepared to speak to journalists before the European Commission, before petitioning against air traffic controller strikes in the European Union (EU).

“Welcome to Belgium,” said one of the activists, throwing a pie in his face, as documented in several videos, while another yelled “stop the pollution” from the planes.

According to AFP, Ryanair’s CEO responded honestly and even laughed at what happened. Later, when speaking to journalists, he even joked on the subject: “I love cream cakes, they are my favorite.”

However, Ryanair published a commentary on the social network X (Twitter) on the matter, stating that Michael O’Leary… had a “warm reception in Brussels”. “Passengers are so happy with our routes and petitions that they are celebrating with cakes,” the airline wrote.

The activists’ protest comes as Ryanair pilots in Belgium announced another strike on September 14 and 15, demanding wages and working conditions.
