A traffic accident between a truck and a passenger bus in Sichuan province, central China, left five dead and 16 injured, the official Xinhua news agency reported this Friday.
The accident, which occurred on Thursday around 5:00 p.m. local time (10:00 a.m. in Lisbon), near the city of Dazhou, occurred on a road with a steep slope, according to Xinhua.
A total of 20 people were traveling in the 30-seater bus, including the driver of the vehicle.
The truck carrying cargo lost control while turning on a steep slope and overturned on top of the bus.
One of the victims died at the scene of the accident, while the other four people succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
Local authorities reported that the injuries were not life-threatening, although they required medical attention.
Preliminary investigations into the exact causes of the accident are underway, Xinhua said.
