Spain, France, Italy and the United Kingdom express their support and solidarity with Morocco

This Saturday, Spain, France, Italy and the United Kingdom expressed their solidarity and support for Morocco, hit by a strong earthquake that caused at least 820 deaths and 672 injuries, 250 of them seriously.

On the same social network, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that France “is willing to help with first aid” after the “terrible earthquake” that left “everyone upset.”

The United Kingdom also promised to help Morocco, “in every way possible.”

“We are willing to help our Moroccan friends in every way possible,” wrote the British Foreign Minister, James Cleverly, on the social network X, noting that the United Kingdom “continues to support” its fellow citizens who are in Morocco.

The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, expressed her solidarity with her Moroccan counterpart, Aziz Akhannouch, after learning “with sadness” of the “tragic impact of the earthquake”, and expressed “Italy’s will to support Morocco in this emergency situation” .

The most recent toll from the earthquake that shook Morocco on Friday night amounted to 820 dead and 672 injured, of which 250 were seriously injured, the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior announced today.

The province with the most registered victims is Al Haouz, south of Marrakech and close to the epicenter, with 394 deaths, according to the balance until 10:00 local time (same time in Lisbon), cited by the Spanish news agency Efe.

They are followed by Taroudant (271 deaths), Chichaoua (91), Ouarzazate (31), Marrakech (13), Azilal (11), Agadir (5), Casablanca (3) and Al Youssufia (1).

According to the National Institute of Geophysics of Morocco, the earthquake reached a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter scale and occurred in the Marrakech region (north) at 11:11 p.m., at a depth of eight kilometers.

The epicenter occurred in the town of Ighil, located about 80 kilometers southwest of Marrakech.

The strong earthquake was felt in Portugal and Spain.
