North Korean president to meet Russian leader soon

The president of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, will soon meet with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, the Russian Presidency announced this Monday.

Putin traveled this morning to Vladivostok, the capital of the Russian Far East and the likely location for talks with Kim.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov has already said that the meeting should not take place during the Eastern Economic Forum, so everything indicates that the meeting will take place at the end of this conference, on Wednesday.

South Korean government sources stated that the North Korean leader’s convoy left Pyongyang this Monday, supposedly bound for Vladivostok, where he is scheduled to meet with Putin.

The last time the North Korean leader traveled to this same city to meet with the Russian president, in April 2019, he also traveled on his special armored train, which took about 20 hours to reach the port bathed by the Pacific Ocean.

Last week, several North American media reported that Kim was preparing a meeting with Putin to discuss military-technical cooperation, with a view to the war in Ukraine.

According to this news, Putin would like North Korea to sell munitions, artillery and anti-tank missiles to Russia, which Moscow could use in Ukraine, while Pyongyang would seek advanced technology for the manufacture of satellites and nuclear-powered submarines, as well as for aid food.

This will be Kim’s first trip abroad since 2019, when the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic led the communist regime to close its borders in early 2020.

Putin will also meet this week in Vladivostok with Zhang Guoqing, vice premier of China, the North Korean regime’s main ally.
