Speaking to European leaders at the European Political Community summit this Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine must win the war “so that Russian tanks do not advance into Warsaw and again into Prague”.
Zelensky took part via videoconference at the first European Political Community Summit, which took place in the Czech capital. In Prague, it hosted a meeting attended by 44 heads of state or government from the European continent.
During his speech, the Ukrainian president asked Western capitals to supply more weapons to his army and to impose more sanctions “to punish the aggressor”, referring to Russia, a country that launched a military offensive on Ukrainian territory on February 24.
Prague Castle this Thursday hosted the first meeting of the newly formed European Political Community, with the 27 leaders of the European Union and 17 other countries to discuss security and peace on the European continent, in a context of war.
This summit is the result of an idea launched by French President Emmanuel Macron in May, when Russian military aggression against Ukraine was already underway.
