More than 70 crocodiles have escaped from a farm in southeastern China due to heavy rains that hit the region, local authorities said on Tuesday, advising residents to stay home.
According to the Chinese press, 69 adult crocodiles and six babies have escaped in Maoming, a coastal city in Guangdong province, which borders Macau and Hong Kong.
No injuries have been reported so far.
Authorities say some of the crocodiles have been captured, but the operation has been hampered by the depth of the lake where the crocodiles are found, according to local media.
Further west, seven people were killed and three were missing after several landslides in Yulin city, Guangxi region, the official Xinhua news agency reported. Heavy rain on Sunday and Monday caused landslides.
Last week, rain caused flash flooding in Hong Kong, killing two people.
