A drone strike struck the city of Lviv, western Ukraine, on Tuesday morning, with explosions sparking a fire in a warehouse and injuring at least one person.
The city of Lviv, near the border with Poland, is considered one of the safest in Ukraine, but has seen increased attacks recently. Three people were killed in airstrikes in August.
An AFP journalist heard numerous explosions and heavy vehicles driving through the streets during curfew.
The Ukrainian Air Force said drones attacked the city and that air defenses were working.
Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi wrote on Telegram that “as a result of an attack, an industrial warehouse is on fire in one of the districts of Lviv.”
“So far we know of one person who was injured in the attack,” he added, noting that “all Russians should burn in hell.”
Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv region’s military administration, said that “two people were rescued from the rubble in Lviv, a man and a woman.” “The woman is initially believed to have no injuries. The man’s condition is serious,” he added.
“The threat is over,” he wrote afterwards, thanking the air defense forces.
In the Mykolaiv region of southern Ukraine, ten drones were “destroyed” overnight, Governor Vitaliy Kim said on Telegram.
Falling debris from a crashed Russian drone damaged agricultural machinery at a company, but there were no reports of casualties.
And in the east-central Dnipropetrovsk region, the Nikopol district came under artillery fire, regional governor Sergiy Lysak said, noting that six houses were damaged, as well as an electricity cable and a gas pipeline. A 71-year-old man was injured and taken to hospital “in moderate condition”, he said on Telegram.
