Portuguese singers Carminho and Maria Mendes have been nominated for the 24th edition of the Latin Grammy Music Awards, the presentation of which will take place this year in Seville, Spain, the organization announced on Tuesday.
According to the list of nominated artists, fado singer Carminho has been nominated for the Latin Grammy for “Best Roots Album in the Portuguese Language,” with her sixth album, “Portuguesa” (Warner Music), released last March.
“Portuguesa” brings together traditional fados composed by Carminho and other songs composed by guest authors such as Rita Vian, Luísa Sobral, Joana Espadinha and Brazilian musician Marcelo Camelo.
Jazz singer Maria Mendes has been nominated again for the Latin Grammys, in the category “Best Arrangement”, together with musician John Beasley with a version of the song “Com que Voz”, taken from the live album “Saudade, Color of Love”, from 2022.
According to the artist agency, in “Saudade, Color of Love” (Challenge Records) “Maria Mendes brings her spirited mix of symphonic jazz and fado to the concert stage with John Beasley and Metropole Orkest”, presenting new arrangements of orchestral songs from his album ” Close to me” from 2019.
This year, for the first time, the Latin Grammy ceremony will take place in Spain, scheduled for November 16 in Seville.
In this edition, the most nominated artists are the Colombians Karol G, Shakira and Camilo, with seven nominations each, followed by the Argentine Bizarrap, with six.
Spain’s Pablo Alborán, Puerto Rican Bad Bunny, Argentina’s Maria Becerra, Colombia’s Fied and Mexico’s Natália Lafourcade each have five nominations.
