Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this Wednesday, in the first meeting between an Israeli ruler and Ukraine’s head of state since the 2022 Russian invasion.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly and was deemed “cordial” by Netanyahu’s office.
The Israeli Prime Minister “made it clear that Israel will continue to assist Ukraine in humanitarian matters, including mine clearance.”

Zelensky called for more Israeli support for Ukraine, “including military and defensive equipment.”
So far, Israel has denied this kind of support because of its ties to Moscow.
Israel maintains a diffuse position on the war in Ukraine by not cutting ties with Russia as it coordinates with Moscow’s positions of force against Iran or against Tehran-affiliated militias on Syrian territory.
For these reasons, Israel has refused to send weapons to Ukraine and maintains relations with Moscow, facts that have been criticized by Kiev, which mainly intends to obtain parts for air defense systems considered among the most advanced in the world.
