Russia shot down 19 Ukrainian drones over the Black Sea and Crimea overnight on Wednesday, as well as three in the Kursk, Belgorod and Orel regions, the Russian Defense Ministry announced this Thursday.
“Air defense systems destroyed 19 Ukrainian drones over the Black Sea and the territory of the Republic of Crimea,” the ministry wrote on the Telegram messaging platform.
Three planes were shot down in the Kursk, Belgorod (southwest) and Orel (west) regions, bringing the total number of downed drones to 22, he added.
On August 25, the same source claimed that Russia had shot down 42 Ukrainian drones in Crimea, the peninsula annexed by Moscow in 2014.
In the early hours of September 14, Russia claimed to have destroyed five Ukrainian drones in the Black Sea, this time naval drones, as they attempted to attack the Sergei Kotov patrol boat.
On Wednesday, local authorities said they had thwarted new attacks from kyiv targeting Sevastopol, a key Black Sea port used by the Russian fleet.
Ukrainian attacks against Russian territory have multiplied in recent months, in the context of a counteroffensive launched by kyiv in early June.
Crimea is a common target, as are Russian regions bordering Ukraine and Moscow.
