Germany will host an international conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine next year, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said after a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York.
The talks will take place in Berlin on June 11, 2024, the Chancellery added in a press release.
London hosted the last conference of its kind, which brought together leaders and representatives from more than 60 countries and financial institutions in June, with the aim of unlocking funds for the reconstruction of the country after the Russian invasion.
The goal of the conference is to help Ukraine keep the economy running and, in the long term, rebuild infrastructure.
Scholz met with the Ukrainian president for half an hour on Wednesday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the political, military and humanitarian situation in Ukraine was at the center of the discussions.
Scholz reaffirmed that Germany will continue to support kyiv.
Zelensky indicated, in a message on the Telegram messaging platform, that the two leaders discussed the situation on the front line and the priority needs of the Ukrainian defense forces.
