Double dose for the American president. Joe Biden, 80, has received a dose of the updated Covid-19 vaccine, as well as the annual flu shot, his doctor announced Saturday.
“As we enter cold and flu season, the President encourages all Americans to follow his lead,” wrote the President’s personal physician, Kevin O’Connor.
Joe Biden also received “several weeks ago” a new vaccine against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), the main cause of bronchiolitis and which can be especially dangerous in the elderly and babies.
A growing number of hospitalizations
U.S. health officials now recommend that all Americans age 60 and older receive the RSV vaccine. They also authorized last week an updated version of the Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines, better adapted to the variants of the virus currently in circulation.
The number of hospitalizations linked to Covid-19 has been increasing in the United States in recent weeks, according to figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but the success of this new vaccination campaign is uncertain: the previous dose of reinforcement against Covid. -19 had only been taken by 17% of the American population.
