Russia tells UN that Ukraine’s peace plan is “completely unfeasible.”

Russia’s head of diplomacy, Sergei Lavrov, said yesterday that the Ukrainian peace plan is “completely unfeasible” and that United Nations proposals to restore the deal that allowed grain exports through the Black Sea are “not realistic.” The statements were made to journalists after a speech at the UN General Assembly. Lavrov also accused the West of already, in practice, directly fighting Moscow with its support for Kiev.

In the stands there were few references to the war in Ukraine, with Lavrov taking the opportunity to call the West a ‘war’ “kingdom of lies”. According to the minister “the goal of a “strategic defeat” of Russia was proclaimed”, and this “obsession” ultimately caused “to cloud the vision of reckless politicians, who feel a sense of impunity” and “lose the sense of self-preservation”. According to the head of Russian diplomacy, the US and its “subordinates” continue to “foster conflicts that artificially divide humanity into hostile blocs.” This “hinderes the achievement of global goals” by “forcing the world to follow its own self-centered rules” and “preventing the formation of a truly multipolar world order.”

Lavrov spoke at the General Assembly four days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took the stand – rules dictate that countries represented by heads of state are the first to intervene, and those that send only ministers are the last. He said little about the war, limiting himself to summarizing historical grievances dating back to the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, but he made no mention of the situation on the ground 19 months after the invasion.

But he did not avoid the subject at the press conference and accused the West of already being in direct confrontation with Moscow, with its support for Kiev.: “You can call it whatever you want, but they are fighting us. We say it’s a hybrid war, but that doesn’t change anything.” Regarding Zelensky’s ten-point peace plan, he said that it is not possible to implement it. “It is not realistic and everyone understands that, but at the same time they say that it is the only basis for negotiations,” he recalled. .

On the ground, Kiev claims to have broken through Russian defense lines on the southern front – by taking control of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region – and guarantees that he killed “high commandos” of the Moscow Navy in the attack on the headquarters on the Crimea. (illegally annexed in 2014). In a statement, the Ukrainian military said that “dozens of people were killed and injured among the residents” of the building, “including high commands of the Russian fleet”, as the attack took place “during a meeting of leaders of the Russian Navy”.
