Russia has opened a criminal investigation into the explosion that this Saturday caused the collapse of part of the bridge that connects Russia with the Crimean peninsula, reported the France Prece agency (AFP).
Russia’s Investigative Committee said it had “opened a criminal investigation into the Crimean bridge incident”, adding that the explosion took place after a “truck exploded”.
According to Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee, a truck bomb detonated seven railcars carrying fuel and caught fire, causing a “partial collapse of two sections of the bridge.”
It is a key hotspot that Russia built after it occupied and annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, in violation of international law.
The fire came hours after explosions in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv this morning.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said on the Telegram messaging platform that the explosions were due to missile strikes in the city center, with no casualties reported so far.
