NGO asks the Portuguese for help to train and keep young people away from drugs in Venezuela

The Fundação de Atenção Integra Juvenil (Fudainil) called on entrepreneurs and the Portuguese community in Venezuela to help train and find employment for young Portuguese-Venezuelans, to keep them away from the streets and drugs.

“I want to ask the Portuguese community to help us support young people who are on the streets, who are unemployed and who need to work to support their families,” the president of Fundainil told the Lusa agency.

Ana Sánchez Mora, teacher and former director of the Venezuelan Ministry of Education, said that there are “many unemployed and children on the streets” and that it is necessary to “give them training.”

According to the person in charge, she highlighted that Fundainil has several projects that it wants to carry out soon in the area of baking and pastry, mechanics and even teaching young people to create filters at home to transform their own water into drinking water. .

Ana Sánchez also explained that one of the projects includes the manufacture of soap bars and liquid soap, but she regretted that there are no financial resources to move forward.

“The current situation is unemployment. Therefore, there is a lot of crime. But we try to attract these young people, train them, get them an internship in a company, where they can get closer to the labor market. And that is what we have done,” he stated. .

As an example of successful programs, he mentioned 100-hour internships in companies such as the tire manufacturer Good Year and Toyota, where young people then work and have the opportunity to continue studying.

Regarding Fundainil, he explained that it was created in 1990, and that for 34 years it has been working on “the prevention and protection of children and adolescents, families, schools and the community.”

“We are very interested in the family, with their children and health. For us, education is extremely important, because when children study they prepare for the future and for a safe and healthy life, because where there is work, there is a way to live,” he stressed.

On the other hand, he explained that Fundainil launched programs that in the past “were not accepted by society” or Venezuelan communities.

“We were pioneers, in Venezuela, in the prevention of drug use, in sexual reproductive health, in early adolescent pregnancy and in family planning,” he explained.

According to Ana Sánchez, it was thanks to the work of Fundainil that Venezuela implemented a sexual and reproductive health prevention program in schools for the first time, remembering that topics such as early pregnancy and menstrual cycles were taboo for teachers.

“We managed to train a large number of young people who were unemployed and who were not studying at all. There was a lot of crime derived from unemployment, especially among young people,” he said.

Based in Caracas and present in the 24 states of Venezuela, Fundainil is known for the work it does in the socio-labor integration of young people at risk and dropouts from the Venezuelan educational system.

Drug use, sexual and reproductive health, domestic and school violence, and labor issues are some of the areas it covers.
