This Monday, Russia attacked the Odessa region in southern Ukraine with 19 drones and 14 missiles, and Ukrainian authorities reported one person injured and damage to port infrastructure.
Moscow “attacked the Odessa region with offensive drones and two types of missiles,” Odessa Governor Oleg Kiper explained, mentioning “several attacks,” including the attack on “port infrastructure.”
“A civilian was injured by a shock wave,” added Kiper, on the Telegram messaging platform, specifying that the victim was taken to the hospital.
Russia carried out the attack with 19 Iranian-made Shahed drones, two Onyx supersonic missiles and 12 Kalibr missiles, according to the Ukrainian military. A submarine was also mobilized, the same source stated.
All drones and 11 Kalibr missiles were shot down by air defenses, the army added, indicating that the Odessa seaside resort suffered “significant damage” and a fire, quickly extinguished, broke out in a hotel.
Two Kalibr missiles of the 11 destroyed fell in the regions of Mykolaiv (southern) and Kirovograd (center).
The Onyx missiles destroyed barns without causing any casualties, the military said, adding that warehouses and businesses were damaged by falling debris in the Odessa suburbs.
Russian forces periodically attack this region of southern Ukraine, next to the Black Sea, where port infrastructure crucial for maritime trade is located.
Attacks have increased since Russia abandoned a grain deal in July that allowed Ukraine to freely export its products.
On Sunday, a second shipment of Ukrainian wheat arrived in Istanbul via the Black Sea, using a shipping corridor created by Kiev, despite threats from Moscow to attack ships entering and leaving Ukraine.
For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated this morning that, on Sunday, several drones were shot down over the Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk regions. In the latter region, an administrative building was damaged.
In recent weeks, Ukrainian drone incursions have increased in Russian regions near the border, although they have also reached points near Moscow.
UK intelligence recently stated that Russia’s air defense systems are having difficulty detecting and destroying drones launched by Ukraine, which have been attacking important Russian military infrastructure.
