One injured in Russian attack on Odessa with 19 drones and 14 missiles

This Monday, Russia attacked the Odessa region, in southern Ukraine, with 19 drones and 14 missiles, with Ukrainian authorities reporting one injury and damage to port infrastructure.

Moscow “attacked the Odessa region with offensive drones and two types of missiles,” Odessa Governor Oleg Kiper explained, citing “several attacks,” including the attack on “port infrastructure.”

“A civilian was injured by a shock wave,” Kiper added on the messaging platform Telegram, specifying that the victim had been taken to hospital.

Russia carried out the attack with 19 Iranian-made Shahed drones, two supersonic Onyx missiles and 12 Kalibr missiles, the Ukrainian military said. A submarine was also mobilized, the same source said.

All drones and 11 Kalibr missiles were shot down by air defenses, the military added, indicating that the The seaside resort of Odessa suffered “significant damage” and a fire, which was quickly extinguished, broke out at a hotel.

Two of the eleven destroyed Kalibr missiles fell in the Mykolaiv (south) and Kirovograd (center) regions.

The Onyx missiles destroyed barns without causing casualties, the military said, adding that warehouses and businesses were damaged by falling debris in the outskirts of Odessa.

Russia says several drones have been shot down over the Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk regions

Russian forces regularly target this region in southern Ukraine, next to the Black Sea, where port infrastructure is crucial for maritime trade.

The number of attacks has increased since Russia canceled a grain deal in July that allowed Ukraine to freely export products.

A second shipment of Ukrainian wheat arrived in Istanbul on Sunday, via the Black Sea, through a maritime corridor created by Kiev, despite Moscow’s threats to attack boats entering and leaving Ukraine.

The Russian Defense Ministry said this morning that several drones were shot down over the Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk regions on Sunday. In the latter region, an administrative building was damaged.

In recent weeks, Ukrainian drone incursions have increased in Russian regions close to the border, although points near Moscow have also been reached.

British intelligence recently stated that Russian air defense systems are having difficulty detecting and destroying Ukrainian-launched drones that have hit key Russian military infrastructure.
