Russia blames Kosovo for Sunday’s ‘bloodshed’

This Monday, Russia accused the Government of Kosovo of being responsible for Sunday’s “bloodshed” in a deadly incident near the border with Serbia, warning it of the danger of dragging “the entire Balkan region towards a dangerous precipice.” .

“There is no doubt that yesterday’s (Sunday) bloodshed is a direct and immediate consequence of future Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s policy of inciting conflict,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said, warning that any attempt to worsen The situation could drag “the entire Balkan region towards a dangerous precipice.”

According to Moscow, the Kosovo police “have long been discredited due to systematic punitive acts against the Serbian community.”

“Heavily armed special forces that moved into non-Albanian areas are the main weapon used to expel the Serbs from Kosovo,” Russian diplomacy further accused.

Referring to the embargo on goods from Serbia, Russia stated that “the north [do Kosovo] “We have been on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe for months.”

“There is a direct threat of a return to the ethnic cleansing practiced by Kosovar Albanian extremists,” the Russian multinational also stated.

The death of a Kosovo police officer in an ambush on Sunday, followed by shootouts between heavily armed men barricaded in a monastery, constitutes one of the most serious incidents that have occurred in recent years in the north of the territory, in a context of stagnation in talks between Belgrade and Pristina.

According to Kosovo authorities, four members of the commando were killed and six others are receiving treatment in a Serbian hospital.

About 120,000 Serbs reside in Kosovo, a third of whom live in the north of the territory, which has a total population of 1.8 million inhabitants, the vast majority of Albanian origin.

Pristina declared its independence from Serbia in 2008, almost ten years after a bloody war between independent Kosovo rebels and Serbian forces that ended with a bombing campaign by NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Western defense bloc).

Serbia, supported by its allies Russia and China, refuses to recognize the independence of its former province.
